Keeping business on the boil at Barkers
Working around the opening hours of a busy department store was key to successfully installing a new hot water boiler for Barkers of Northallerton.
The family owned store, which has been a much-loved feature of the town’s high street since 1882, turned to HCS for advice for fitting a new boiler for its kitchen.
We recommended redesigning the space for the boiler, which provides hot water for a busy kitchen that services a 200-seat restaurant and the 1882 café and bistro.
With hundreds of thirsty and hungry customers at peak times of the day, we had to ensure the constant supply of hot water to the kitchen was not disrupted when we installed the boiler. We worked around the shop’s business hours, either early morning or after 8pm, to ensure that the boiler changeover had minimum impact on the restaurant and café.
Boiler installation was completed in two days, and the overall project took four days.
Iain MacLeod, maintenance manager at Barkers of Northallerton, commented: “HCS really understood our needs, and that we could not allow our customers to be affected by the refit. We were very satisfied with all aspects of the work. In fact we couldn’t fault anything.”
Ashley Smith, Commercial Director at HCS, said: “It was particularly rewarding for us to be able to work with a local business, and especially one with such an excellent reputation.”
